Encarnacion - the pearl of the south

Encarnacion was founded at the banks of Rio Parana in South Paraguay in 1615. The town has about 32,000 citizens and due to the mild climate it is called "pearl of the South". Encarnacion is divided into two zones, which differ firstly by their location and their age. The upper modern zone is the financial centre, whereas the older zone along the Rio Parana lies. Here you can discover the old city and its lively bustles and activities.

  • Encaranacion:
  • Plaza Mariscal Solano Lopez
  • Plaza del Solado Paraguayo
  • Plaza de la Basilica

We suggest walking along the old port of the countrie´s most cosmopolitan town. Its inhabitants are German, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, New Zealands, Chinese and Polish descent.

Encarnacion is starting-point for visits to the Jesuit ruins. The city is conntected with Argentina`s city Posadas by the bridge San Roque Gonzales.
